Camp Howdy first opened in 1947 with six tents and a dining hall. That first summer saw 142 boys take part in summer camp over four weeks. At that time, the site was water access only and the cost of the ferry ride was just 75 cents! The first camper cabins were built in 1966. Since then, tens of thousands of youth have visited Camp Howdy to experience nature with a breath of fresh pristine air.
